poignant on earth
Lena Rubin
travel was a complex way
to learn the body
to find the tiniest things
to marvel at
yarrow, angelica
motherwort, echinacea
the moon simple as bread
alice’s voice it comforts me
on a bus thru the spanish
countryside
green cotton dress
descent of alette in my headphones
an incantation summoned
from behind sleep
laying close to you
in the pink light at dream house
you absorb everything
into ur very ornate selfhood
your very tender mind
The title “poignant on earth” comes from Alice Notley’s poem “World’s Bliss”
Lena Rubin is a writer from New York currently based in Western Massachusetts.
